Rome is the 4th most popular destination in the world, says TripAdvisor

Rome, the “eternal city”, rose to fourth place on the list of most popular destinations in the world Travelers' Choice, an annual award from travel information website TripAdvisor.   

Sixth place in 2022, the Italian capital gained two positions in 2023, behind only the leader Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, Bali, Indonesia, and London, in the United Kingdom, which appear in second and third place, respectively.

The top 10 also includes Paris (France), Cancún (Mexico), Crete (Greece), Marrakech (Morocco), Dominican Republic and Istanbul (Turkey). The list of 25 most popular destinations still includes Florence (19th) and is closed by Rio de Janeiro.   

Rome also came in first place as best gastronomic destination in the world on Travelers' Choice, followed by Crete, Hanoi (Vietnam) and Florence, while Naples is in eighth place.   

“It is a beautiful recognition that confirms the quality of the tourist offer and our cuisine, unique in the world”, said the Roman mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, on Twitter.
