The risk affects almost all 20 regions of Italy and cities such as Trieste, Venice, Pescara, La Spezia, Grosseto and Cagliari
A report released this Wednesday (13) by the Italian government agency for sustainable development, Enea, shows that, by 2100, more than 5,6 square kilometers of coastal areas in the country could be submerged due to warming. global.
Cities such as Venice, Trieste, Pescara, La Spezia, Grosseto and Cagliari could be the most affected. The risk of flooding affects almost all of Italy's 20 regions, from north to south.
The projections were presented during a congress on the Mediterranean in Roma and they also show that sea levels along the Italian coast are expected to rise between 94 centimeters and 1,035 meters throughout this century, taking into account the most cautious model.
From a more alarmist perspective, sea levels could rise by between 1,31 and 1,45 meters. “To these values, it is necessary to add the coexistence of low pressure, waves and winds, which vary from region to region and which, under particular conditions, determine an increase in sea level in relation to the coast of around one meter”, says the Enea.
