Nonna Marietta becomes Italy's oldest grandmother: 112 years old

Nonna Marietta was born on April 16, 1909 and this week celebrated her second birthday in a time of pandemic.

Maria Oliva is the longest-living woman in the world Italy – turned 112 years old – and lives in Sicilia, the Piazza Armerina, in the Ennese region.

Despite having eight children, 58 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, it was not possible to organize a large party due to the Covid-19 emergency.

Nonna Marietta, in addition to having known the great tragedies of the 20th century, such as the First and Second Wars, defeated the terrible “Spanish flu” as a child.

“The city celebrates grandmother Marietta’s 112th birthday. She is a very important record, one of the longest-living women in Europe and the world,” said the mayor of Piazza Armerina, Nino Cammarata.
