Milan , the country's financial capital, appears in first place, with 7.093,9 crimes reported for every 100 inhabitants in 2023, a growth of 4,9% over the pre-pandemic period and with negative records in thefts and robberies.

Furthermore, the Lombard metropolis ranks third in sexual violence and fifth in drug-related crimes.

The capital city of Rome ranks second among the least safe cities, with 6.071,3 reported incidents per 100 inhabitants, a 16,7% increase compared to 2019. It is practically tied with Florence, which has 6.053,8 per 100, driven by a 56% increase in robberies compared to 2022.

The study, which analyzed 106 provincial capitals, also includes Rimini (6.002,8/100 inhabitants), Turin (5.685,1), Bologna (5.539,3), Prato (4.887,9), Imperia (4.838,5), Venice (4) and Livorno (825,1) in the top 4.743,9. Naples appears in 10th position, with 12 complaints for every 4.576,1 inhabitants.

At the other end of the ranking, Treviso (2.258) in the north, Potenza (1.935) in the south, and Oristano (1.511) on the island of Sardinia are the safest cities.

Considering individual crimes, Florence leads the ranking for robberies, with 136,4 reports per 100 inhabitants, followed by Milan (128,4/100), which is first in thefts (3.832,8/100), just ahead of Rome (3.465/100).

Trieste, in northeastern Italy, is the leader in sexual violence, with 24 reports for every 100 inhabitants, while Nuoro, in Sardinia, tops the ranking of intentional homicides (3,9/100). (Handle)
