Florence Court of Appeal confirmed on Wednesday (29) the life sentence for Vittorio Pescaglini, 59 years old. He is the perpetrator of the murder of his wife, a Brazilian woman. Maria Batista Ferreira, of 51 years.
The crime occurred in February 2024 in the town of Fornaci di Barga, in the province of Lucca. Tuscany regionThe decision was announced by the court presided over by Judge Anna Sacco.
The ruling also ratified the provisional payment of 80 euros to each of the victim's two children. This amount is equivalent to approximately R$468,9 at the current exchange rate. The children are from previous relationships of the Brazilian woman.
Case history
The upholding of the sentence fulfills the request of prosecutor Fabio Origlio. He requested that the conviction imposed in the first instance, handed down in June 2025 by the Court of Justice of Lucca, be preserved without alterations.
Pescaglini was convicted of aggravated intentional homicide. During the trial, the defendant's defense, led by lawyer Giammarco Romanini, attempted to have the case declared partially insanity. The goal was to obtain a reduction in the sentence, but the request was denied in both instances.
Crime dynamics
According to the reconstruction carried out by the Italian authorities, the couple was going through a consensual separation process. However, Ferreira did not appear at the final divorce hearing.
Given her absence, Pescaglini arranged to meet his wife in front of the hotel where she was staying. After an argument at the location, the man inflicted several stab wounds on the woman. He turned himself in to the police shortly after the crime.
