Inflation in Italy in February 2025 rose 0,2% compared to January and 1,7% compared to the same period last year, according to preliminary data released this Friday (28) by the National Institute of Statistics (Istat).
If confirmed, the result marks an acceleration in the National Consumer Price Index for the Community (NIC), which had shown an annualized increase of 1,5% last month.
According to Istat, the indicator returned to the level of October 2023, in a result that reflects the dynamics of energy goods prices, which returned to record inflation in February: 0,6% compared to the same period last year, against deflation of 0,7% in January.
Considering only regulated energy goods, such as electricity and gas tariffs, the indicator increased 31,5% year-on-year, against 27,5% last month.
The so-called “shopping cart”, a type of basic basket in Italy that includes food, cleaning and hygiene products, registered an increase of 2,2% compared to February 2024. In January, the annualized growth had been 1,7%. (HANDLE)
