According to the RaiNews portal, the drought plaguing the Danube has revealed the remains of the Nazi fleet in the riverbed, on the border between Serbia and Romania. Dozens of World War II ships have emerged from the waters, and a broken hull is already visible on a sandbank that is normally submerged. Other vessels appear partially afloat, and some of them, according to The Guardian cited by RaiNews, may still be loaded with weapons.
The ships belonged to Adolf Hitler's Black Sea fleet and were deliberately sunk by the German army to slow the Soviet advance. Historians claim that up to 200 vessels were sunk in September 1944.
