Segundo o jornal Il Tempo, o ministro do Interior da Itália, Matteo Piantedosi, informou pelo X que outros 128 imigrantes irregulares foram devolvidos a seus países de origem na última semana. Em entrevista ao evento do partido Fratelli d’Italia em Sorrento, o ministro disse: “Se reemigração significa mais repatriações, é exatamente o que este governo fez.” Ele recordou que, enquanto em 2022 foram repatriadas 4.300 pessoas, até 7 de agosto o número já havia chegado a 5.200.

O tema da imigração irregular segue no centro da agenda política europeia. A presidente do Conselho, Giorgia Meloni, e a primeira-ministra da Dinamarca, Mette Frederiksen, reforçaram pelo Instagram o alinhamento entre os dois governos e defenderam a criação de centros de repatriação em países terceiros, fora.
