The reduction of the tax on the 13th-month salary and the confirmation of the bonus for working mothers are among the measures being studied for the next budget law of Giorgia Meloni's government. Replacing the standard income tax with a 15% or 10% rate on the 13th-month salary would generate net savings of 200 to 500 euros on the paycheck, depending on income, stated the president of the Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, Marco Osnato (Fratelli d'Italia), in an interview with the website ilSussidiario.net during the Rimini Meeting, as reported by the newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore.
Meloni indicated work and family as priorities. According to Osnato, in 2027 the tax cut on increases resulting from the renewal of collective agreements and the maternity bonus should be renewed, in addition to maintaining the bonus for newborns, the childcare bonus, and support for essential expenses. The 1% tax on productivity bonuses is already in effect for 2027.
In the previous budget law, the maternity bonus increased from 40 to 60 euros per month for working mothers with two children and annual income below 40 euros, until the month the second child turns 10. The IRPEF (Income Tax for Retirement and Income) also decreased from 35% to 33% for incomes between 28 and 50 euros. One possibility is to extend the 33% rate up to 60 euros, at a cost of approximately 3 billion euros.
