According to the RaiNews portal, the Italian Army has moved a New Holland D180 crawler tractor from Rome to Abruzzo, described as the most powerful at its disposal, to contain the fire on Mount Morrone. The equipment was transported in specialized trucks and escorted by the highway police. It will operate with operational support from the 9th Alpini Regiment of L'Aquila in opening roads and firebreaks in an area encompassing the municipalities of Roccacasale and Corfinio, in the province of L'Aquila, and Popoli, in the province of Pescara.
The decision to allocate the machine was made by the President of the Region, Marco Marsilio, at a meeting held in Popoli, following a request from the Roccacasale administration and in the presence of the commander of the 9th Alpine Regiment, Colonel Mario D'Angelo. The head of civil protection for Abruzzo, Maurizio Scelli, forwarded the request to Mayor Vito Cusumano. This is the area of greatest concern for the Region and regional civil protection.
Also in the province of L'Aquila, lightning caused a fire in Montereale, where firefighters and volunteers are working. The nightly bulletin from civil protection indicates the situation is under control in Rocca di Cambio. In Sicily, the fire alert in Palermo is at the red level. In Piedmont, fire has once again reached a wooded area in Mornese.
