According to the RaiNews portal, Germany has resumed forced transfers of asylum seekers to Italy, invoking the new European Asylum Regulation, in force since June 12. A spokesperson for the German Interior Ministry stated that Berlin will demand strict application of EU rules. The first confirmed transfer involves Abdirisaq Warsame, a 22-year-old Somali who arrived in Germany in March to reunite with her mother and brother. The young woman, housed in a reception center in Bavaria, received official notification: the police will pick her up on August 19 to escort her to Italy, considered the country responsible for reviewing her application.

The resumption of transfers breaks an agreement reached in December 2025 between the two countries to eliminate accumulated debts.
