The Anti-Crime Division of the Piacenza, in Italy, seized assets estimated at 12 million euros (R$64,1 million) from a businessman in the land transport sector who was allegedly exploiting migrant labor, including Brazilians.
The seizure includes shares and the entire corporate portfolio of 14 companies, including one in Sweden and one in Bulgaria, 32 real estate properties including buildings and land, 110 vehicles including tractors and trailers and several financial reports.
The entrepreneur is of Sicilian origin, but operates in the region of Emilia Romagna. The operation carried out in Piacenza, Milan, Pavia, Cremona, Catania, Messina and Trapani, as part of the fight against illegal immigration and the exploitation of illegal work.
The arrest warrant was issued through the Bologna Court's anti-mafia regulations, at the request of the province of Piacenza.
The Sicilian entrepreneur was already convicted of favoring and exploiting prostitution in November 2022, with charges of favoring illegal immigration, illicit labor intermediation and labor exploitation, in addition to crimes against public faith.
The investigation revealed a “system” of encouraging illegal entry into Italy and the exploitation of foreign citizens, including Brazilians, Moldovans and Turks, who, after handing over large sums of money, received documents and certificates of false professional qualifications, to work as drivers of trucks in italian companies and foreigners of the person being investigated.
