From December 5th to 7th, Genoa will host the congress “Italian Diasporas – Representation and Identity Issues”, an international event dedicated to the experiences and representations of the Italian diaspora in the world.
Promoted by MEI – National Museum of Italian Immigration and by Galata Maritime Museum, the event is the result of collaboration between renowned institutions, such as the MUNTREF Immigration Museum (Buenos Aires), the John D. Calandra Italian American Institute (New York) and the CO.AS.IT (Melbourne).
A rich and diverse program
Researchers and experts from more than ten countries, including Brazil, Argentina, the United States and Australia, will discuss topics involving the cross-cultural experiences of Italians and their descendants.
Topics include the evolution of diasporic identities, the roots tourism, the role of women in migration, the preservation of linguistic heritage and the digitization of historical memories.
The event will feature more than 26 thematic panels distributed between Galata and MEI, addressing issues ranging from the social history of Italian immigration to issues such as cultural articulations in South America and the influence of music and literature on the formation of Italian identities.
The congress will close on December 7th with a round table that will bring together experts to discuss the main results and perspectives on the Italian diaspora, consolidating itself as a milestone in the analysis of Italian identities in migratory contexts.
