The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation's program to promote roots tourism, Italea, made a stop at the Circolo Italiano in São Paulo, in Brazil, a country that has around 30 million Italian descendants, one of the largest communities in the world, which this year celebrates 150 years of immigration.
The event was attended by, among others, the person responsible for the Maeci project, Giovanni Maria De Vita; the Consul General of São Paulo, Domenico Fornara; and the director of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Brazil in São Paulo, Fabio Selan.
Italea's proposal, which refers to the concept of cutting and rebirthing Italian origins, aims to attract descendants of Italians who wish to discover the places and traditions of their ancestors, providing a range of services to facilitate travel to Italy, thanks also to a broad organization of 20 groups - one in each region - who are responsible for informing and welcoming "root travelers".
The initiative “is dedicated both to those who already know their Italian origins and want to organize a trip to discover and rediscover the places, customs and culture of their ancestors, but also to those who have not yet identified their own roots and who will be able to benefit from a network of genealogists”, highlighted De Vita.
The new law will now be reviewed by the European Union's courts. And there are European precedents that strengthen the defense of descendants.

During the presentation, some of the project's main activities were illustrated, in particular the Italea.com portal, where it is possible to explore the various offers and gather suggestions for building a tailor-made experience, and the Italea card, a "passport" that offers exclusive benefits, discounts and concessions.
“The proposed trip is not a traditional tourist visit to the great cities of art, but rather a discovery of small towns”, to understand the deep roots of Italian culture, noted the initiative's regional coordinator, Luca Bruschi.
The regional representatives of Italea Campânia, Francesco Acampora, and Italea Puglia, Giorgia Salicandro, participated in the event, inviting everyone to celebrate the Feast of San Vito, the patron saint of Polignano a Mare (Bari), organized by the Polygnanese community of São Paulo , which year after year increasingly involves the Italian community.
