According to a recent study, eating pasta for dinner combats stress and insomnia, and does not make you gain weight
Good news for pasta lovers. The scientific magazine The Lancet Public Health has just published a study that debunks a myth: a plate of pasta at dinner doesn't make you fat. On the contrary. Consuming a good paste in the last hours of the day improves sleep and combats stress, due to the presence of tryptophan in this food and group B vitamins.
The news, naturally, is being widely reported in the italian media. The new study could change the eating habits of many Italians: 65 percent eat pasta only for lunch, while 35 percent prefer pasta for dinner.
Sleep disorders specialist, Fausto Ito, agrees with the study and says that anyone who wants to sleep well and wake up refreshed should not eliminate carbohydrates from their diet after dark. “It's a myth that if you eat at night you'll gain weight. Each gram of carbohydrate will always provide four calories, no matter when it is eaten. To avoid gaining weight, you need to control excess weight. But this should be done at any time of the day,” he explains.
According to the professional, foods rich in carbohydrates contribute to the production of two types of hormones: serotonin, which reduces anxiety and combats insomnia; and melatonin, which induces sleep.
Avoid exaggeration
Avoiding overindulgence also contributes to perfect sleep. According to Ito, at night the body's metabolism is slower, the heartbeat rate decreases. The same happens with the rhythm of breathing and the digestive process. This means that, if a person eats excessively, they may experience severe abdominal discomfort – capable of keeping them awake and even causing nightmares.
