Between 2021 and 2025, the total number of Brazilians grew by 106,5%, an increase of 296.086 people. Today, Brazilians account for 35,9% of all foreign residents in Portugal.

Brazil alone has more residents than the next seven nationalities combined. Angola, in second place, is far behind, with 103.140 people, or 6,5% of the total number of foreigners.

Next come India (93.683), Cape Verde (76.099), Nepal (56.866), Bangladesh (56.724), Guinea-Bissau (53.555) and Ukraine (47.514). The sum of these seven communities does not reach the size of the Brazilian one.

In total, Portugal had 1.597.539 foreigners in 2025, equivalent to 14% of the resident population. Of this group, 913.249 were men (57,2%) and 684.290 were women (42,8%), which maintains the male predominance among immigrants.

Market share shrinks even with a jump in numbers.

Although the absolute number of Brazilians has skyrocketed, the community's share of the total foreign population has declined slightly, from 37,2% in 2021 to 35,9% in 2025. This trend reflects the accelerated growth of other origins during the same period.

Even so, Brazil continues as the main country of origin for immigrants in Portugal, leading rapidly expanding African and Asian communities.

The numbers are part of the estimates from resident population in Portugal in 2025, released by INE this Monday (22).
