National Consumers Union creates rankings of the most expensive cities in Italy in several categories

What are the most expensive cities in Italy? The National Consumers Union (Unione Nazionale Consumatori) analyzed the most recent data from the Istat for the month of September, focusing on the increases that affected all cities in Italy. 

Based on the study, rankings of most expensive cities in Italy, divided by categories: food and alcoholic beverages, water and services, schools, restaurants and hotels.

Cosenza

Food and drinks represent one of the product categories most affected by inflation: according to the ranking prepared by consumers, the most expensive city in Italy is Cosenza, with an increase of 16% compared to the previous year.

Ascoli Piceno

Ascoli Piceno it is the second most expensive city in Italy for food and alcoholic drinks, with a price increase of 14,2%, which translates into an increase of 773 euros per year. Followed by Viterbo, Imperia, Padova, Terni, Gorizia, Ravenna, Udine, Macerata, Pistoia and Verona.

Catania

Based on the analysis carried out by the Consumers Union on Istat data, Catania is the city in Italy where the most money is spent on Water supply and in the various services linked to the house. While the national inflation average is +1,85, in Catania the increase is 16,4%

Bolzano

In the category of water supply and services linked to the home, after Catania, Bolzano It is the city most affected by inflation. Included in the ranking of best cities to live in Italy, Bolzano is followed by Verona, Como, Rovigo, Pisa, Massa-Carrara, Cremona, Mantova in highest water costs.

Ancona

The Consumer Union survey also put a magnifying glass on spending on early childhood education and primary education: here, the most expensive city in Italy is Ancona, where the resident pays 12,1% more compared to 2021.

Trapani

Analysis by the National Consumers Union shows that accommodation services including hotels, motels, guesthouses, campsites and inns cost 16% more in September than last year. Here the most expensive city is Trapani with an increase of 45,5% in the space of one year.

Verona

Behind Cosenza and Palermo we find Verona, third in the ranking of the biggest increases in restaurant prices. Followed by Cesena, Sassari, Brescia, Viterbo, Olbia, Gorizia, Pistoia and Trento.

Milan

Milan , which in 2021 was considered one of the most expensive cities in the world, is the second Italian municipality with the biggest increase in prices for accommodation services: hotels in the capital of Lombardy cost 43,8% more than in September 2021. In Venice, the annual increase was 34,2%, while in Florence it was 29,2%. In the ranking of the most expensive cities for hotels, Campobasso occupies fifth place ahead of Roma, Bologna, Naples, Pisa and Lucca.
