Considered one of the greatest names in Italian music, Andrea Bocelli (58) has a true “guardian angel” in his life: Veronica Berti (35). Chosen as tenor 15 years ago, Veronica is spontaneous, determined and talkative.
“I don't like to say that I'm Andrea's wife, because it gives a feeling of limitation. I prefer to say that I am your companion, after all, I am always by your side, sharing your personal and professional life”, explained she, responsible for the star's career and also vice-president of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation, an entity created by the tenor in 2011 with the aim of to combat poverty and inequality around the world.
“We are happy with everything we have managed to do so far, always with the help of our friends, because we do nothing alone”, pointed out the Italian.
A loyal companion, she accompanies her chosen one on all his travels and didn't hide her joy at returning to Brazil, where the artist performed. “We have friends here. I love the people, the strength, and above all, Brazilian music. Brazil is the only country we don't have a problem losing to, not even in football. And look, for a large part of Italians, football is practically life! We are passionate about the country,” she joked, in a São Paulo hotel.
Those who also disembarked here were Virginia (4), heiress of the pair. “Andrea is strict. He demands a lot from himself and teaches his children to do the same thing. Furthermore, while it gives them a lot of freedom and confidence, they wait awake for their children to get home at night to find out when they arrived, how they arrived and who they arrived with,” she highlighted.
Father still Doms (21) and Matteo (19), from a previous relationship, the tenor is admittedly jealous of the youngest. “It will be a hard life for Virginia, very hard! You can get an idea from her name, which means virgin in Latin”, he said.
The couple, who have faith and religion as the main foundations of their family, make a point of basing their education on Catholic dogmas. “Andrea is very religious, so all the values he passes on to his children are linked to his Christianity, especially love and respect for others,” she explained.
Without listing formulas for the ideal marriage, Veronica turned the age difference — she is 23 years younger than him — into a learning experience. “I'm passionate and he, due to his age, has already learned to break things down and be calmer. As an Italian saying goes, he teaches me to count to 10 before responding! I try, but it’s not always possible,” said she, who met Bocelli at a party in Ferrara. The wedding was in 2014, in Livorno.
The only time she's shy is when she needs to talk about herself. “I wanted to be like those who say they eat everything and stay thin! But I confess: it's a sacrifice not being able to eat what I want and an even greater sacrifice being able to fit into the dresses. But we do what we can, right?,” she summed up, blushing.
