Italy has the best tourist reputation in Europe for the second year running, according to research by the European Tourism Reputation Index (ETR Index) by the Demoskopika Institute.
The “Belpaese” leads the overall standings with 115,5 points, ahead of Greece (108,4) and Spain (102,8).
In a total of four indicators evaluated, the Italian territory won in two – research and popularity of the destination – and came second in terms of tourist offer.
According to the ETR Index, the country only left something to be desired in terms of social media outreach, where the Italian government's channels for tourism (Enit and Italia.it) are not well explored when compared to the official profiles of Portugal, Greece and Spain.
In regional terms, the central-northern part of the Belpaese took almost all the top spots in the rankings compiled by the Demoskopika Institute. Tuscany secured first place with 109,6 points, achieved thanks to good work on institutional social media, as well as research and popularity of the destination, quality of restaurants and hospitality and cultural offerings.
The Trentino-Alto Adige region (108 points) came in second place, followed by Sicily (104,6), the only southern representative on the podium. Lazio, Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna come next.
“Italy is still the queen of Europe in terms of tourist reputation.
And it is no coincidence that spending by foreign [tourists] continues to grow: November 2024 was better than the same period the previous year. Teamwork always brings great results,” said Italy’s Tourism Minister Daniela Santanchè. (HANDLE)
