Only 24 hours in Rome? Learn how to avoid tourist traps and live like a Roman.

Seeing Rome in one day seems impossible, but the common mistake is trying to see everything. The golden rule is: choose a region and find your own pace. If you only have 24 hours, the goal isn't to check off cliché monuments, but to understand the... lifestyle from the capital.

08:00 – The awakening in the Pantheon

Arrive at Pantheon Before the tour groups arrive. Entry is paid and controlled, but watching the light coming through the skylight early in the morning is magical.

  • Gold tip: Don't have coffee at the kiosks in the square. Walk two minutes to the... Sant' Eustachio Il Caffè (1938) for the city's most iconic espresso.

11:00 – The Jewish Ghetto and Tiber Island

Escape the crowded Piazza Navona. Head to the Jewish Ghetto. It's one of the oldest and best-preserved areas.

  • What to eat: Prove it Carciofo alla Giudìa (fried artichoke), a Roman delicacy that no "tourist trap" can perfectly replicate.

14:00 – Trastevere (Side B)

Cross the bridge to the TrastevereBut avoid the main streets where waiters call you at the door. Explore the alleys further from the central square.

  • The secret: Look for the Biscofficius Hidden gems for a quick sweet treat.

17:00 PM – Sunset at Gianicolo

Instead of fighting for a spot at the Trevi Fountain (which in 2026 will require booking to get close to the water), climb the mountain. JaniculumYou'll have the most spectacular view of Rome, with the church domes bathed in golden sunlight.

20:00 PM – Dinner like a Roman

Basic rule: If the menu has pictures of food on the door, run. Look for a trattoria that doesn't have an English menu on the sidewalk. Order a Cacio and Pepe or a Carbonara (without cream, please!).

Beware of Traps
  • Gladiators for photos: They charge high prices and can be aggressive. Politely ignore them.
  • "Tourist menu": Frozen food and rushed service. Opt for the daily special.
  • Taxis without meters: Always use the app (FreeNow) or agree on a fixed price beforehand.
  • Expensive mineral water: Rome has "Nasoni" (free drinking water fountains) on every corner. Bring your own bottle!
