According to the ranking, Venice is the most foul-mouthed city: an average of 19 swear words per day

There are many bizarre rankings, and this one is fully included: What are the Italian cities where the most swear words are said?

The list was compiled by Prely, a language learning platform, which highlighted some really interesting facts.

We start with the main fact: on average, every Italian swears 8,91 times a day

There is a notable difference between the sexes, with men swearing on average 11,6 times a day, compared to 6,3 uttered daily by women.

It is then possible to make a subdivision by age group: the most “dirty-mouthed” language is that of young people between 16 and 24 years old, with an average of 14 swear words per day.

As age increases, there is an almost constant drop, reaching 3,9 swear words per day for those over 55.

The site then analyzed the habits of Italians, discovering that many of them swear more easily at home or with friends, but also in the office and while driving (think of an angry Italian in traffic).

Now let's see which ones cities they have more swear words.

Taranto

In tenth place we find the city of Taranto, in the region of Apulia, which is well below average: here “only” 5 swear words are said per day. According to Preply, citizens are at their most intolerant when behind the wheel, indulging in a lot of liberating swearing.

Naples, Verona, Parma, Bari, Bologna and Catania

Then there is a long series of cities that share ninth place, with an average of 6 swear words per day: we are talking about Naples, Verona, Parma, Bari, Bologna and Catania. The latter, according to research, has a spike in curses within the four walls of the home.

Modena

The eighth position is occupied by the city of Modena, whose inhabitants indulge in an average of 7 insults per day. We are slightly below the national average.

Rome and Trieste

In joint seventh position, we find the cities of Rome and Trieste: here around 8 swear words are said every day.

Particularly surprising is the capital which, despite being very chaotic, probably “accustomed” its inhabitants to be calmer in the face of obstacles.

Turin, Palermo and Florence

The cities of Turin, Palermo and Florence are perfectly aligned with the national average, ranking sixth. Its inhabitants use swear words generally 9 times a day.

Milan

We went up to fifth position, to find the city of Milan : The daily chaos and frequent use of swear words as an intermediary lead its residents to swear an average of 11 times a day.

Messina

In fourth position is the city of Messina, whose inhabitants use an average of 12 swear words per day.

Genova

To find out the podium, we have to go back to northern Italy: the bronze medal goes to the city of Genova, where residents tend to use foul-mouthed language an average of 14 times a day.

Padua and Brescia

In second place is another tie, this time between the cities of Padua and Brescia. Its inhabitants have the habit of swearing an average of 17 times a day.

It is worth remembering that Padua (Padova, in Italian) is the main birthplace of Italian immigration in Brazil. Maybe that explains something.

Veneza

First place goes to the city of Venice, with no less than 19 swear words per day: according to Preply, the cause lies in its peculiar geographical situation, which causes several problems for residents and tourists.
