Italian President Sergio Mattarella said on Wednesday (17) that the Edifício Itália, the second tallest building in São Paulo, at 165 meters, is a testament to the “strong bond” that Brazil has maintained with the European country over 150 years.
The president also highlighted that he is “happy” to be the first Italian head of state in 24 years to visit the South American nation.
“It is an important opportunity to express my appreciation for what has been done for our fellow citizens and their descendants. This building is a message and a testimony of the strong bond with Italy that has been maintained throughout these 150 years,” she commented.
Mattarella stated that he was “sincerely admired” by the organization of the Immigration Museum, in addition to ensuring that the meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva confirmed the growth of collaboration between Italy and Brazil.
“The agreements signed were significant and concern the daily lives of citizens. It is yet another strong bond that is established with agreements that add to existing ones,” she concluded. (HANDLE)
