Italy considers localized lockdowns if numbers continue to rise
A Italy alert: will be introduced localized lockdowns if the rate of coronavirus infections shows no signs of improving.
“If we see that there is a need for even tougher interventions in some areas, we will do so without hesitation,” said the Minister of Health Roberto Speranza.
The country registered more than 845 new infections in the last 24 hours – breaking a new record since May, when it cautiously emerged from one of the longest confinements in the world.
Thursday's numbers (20) reflect a large increase in testing, especially among passengers arriving from high-risk countries.
In the last 24 hours, 77.442 diagnostic tests were carried out, which represented an increase of around 20 tests compared to the previous day.
Currently, there are 16.014 active cases of infection in the country.
