The Italian Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture (Unioncamere) has revealed that the number of companies working with veterinary and pet care services has exploded in the last five years in the country.
According to the survey, the pet economy in Italy has undergone a change.
Puppy and food supply companies have lost ground to veterinarians and establishments dedicated to animal welfare.
Between 2019 and 2024, the number of companies offering pet care grew by 32%. This percentage, however, grows to 90,1% if we analyze the last decade. Meanwhile, veterinary services, in turn, saw a 39,4% increase in five years.
The study also mentioned that Italians are increasingly seeking qualified groomers, professional caregivers and specialized physiotherapists. The association also explained that people do not just want to feed their pets, but to ensure that they live a healthy and happy life.
Businesses selling animals and products fell by 10,6% in the period, especially establishments dedicated to raising rabbits (21,6%). (ANSA)
