The train strike in Italy on Tuesday, November 5, paralyzed rail transport in several regions of the country, causing delays and cancellations for thousands of passengers.
Called by six of the main transport unions, the strike started at 9am and should last until 17pm, affecting services of companies such as Trenitalia and Italo.
Protest for more security
The decision to halt activities came after a serious incident in the Liguria region, where an inspector was stabbed while checking tickets on a regional train.
This attack was the trigger for the strike, which aims to draw attention to the increase in violent episodes against railway workers.
According to unions, these attacks have become frequent and pose a threat to the safety of employees and passengers.

Impact of the strike on rail transport
The shutdown affected all types of rail services, from long-distance trains to regional and local services, with the severity of the impact varying by city and operator.
A state Railways, responsible for operators such as Trenitalia, Trenord e Trenitalia Tper, reported that some essential services were maintained during peak hours to minimize the impact on passengers.
Operation of essential services
To reduce the impact on users, operators have ensured a minimum number of essential services. Trenitalia, the national operator, has kept some long-distance trains running and has released regional service times from 6am to 9am and from 18pm to 21pm.
Italo, a private long-distance operator, said it also offered a reduced number of services to avoid total interruptions.
Passengers with trips scheduled for today were advised to check the status of trains on the operators' websites and apps before leaving.
Trenord, which serves the Lombardy region, including connections to Milan Malpensa Airport, said there could be cancellations and changes to routes but did not guarantee the operation of essential services during the strike period.
Refund and rescheduling
Passengers affected by cancellations have the right to reschedule their trips or request a refund. Both Trenitalia and Italo provide detailed information on the procedure on their respective customer service channels.
