The partnership also provides scholarships for students at the Faculty of Arts
The Italian consul in Belo Horizonte, Dario Savarese, visited the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and proposed a partnership with the institution in a project to teach the Italian language in public schools in the capital.
The idea is that the classes will be taught by Italian students from the Faculty of Arts (Fale) in primary education units, administered by the City Hall, and secondary education units, which are part of the state network. According to the consul, the proposal was well received by the municipal and state Education departments.
“We want to give more young people the opportunity to learn Italian. This first chance creates a virtuous circle and encourages the continuity of studies linked to the Italian language and culture”, said Dario Savarese, who assumed consular representation in June 2018. He informed that the most conservative estimates are that Minas Gerais has more of one million Italian descendants.
Sandra Goulart Almeida, dean of the university, emphasized the satisfaction of receiving the proposal on behalf of UFMG and the interest in the project, the details of which are yet to be defined. “It will be another important initiative of the University’s old partnership with the consulate from Italy”, said the dean.
