Italian ambassador mourns death of former ES governor

“Thanks to him, Italian Immigrant Day was established,” declared Bernardini.

The Italian ambassador in Brasília, Antonio Bernardini, lamented this Thursday (27) the death of the former governor of Espírito Santo Gerson Camata, murdered last Wednesday (26), in Vitória.

“It is with great sadness that we learned the news of the murder of Gerson Camata, former governor of Espírito Santo and a well-known political figure in Brazil,” Bernardini wrote on Twitter. Camata was killed by a former advisor, Marcos Venício Moreira Andrade, with whom he had a dispute in court.

In his message, the ambassador recalled that the former governor was the author of the initiative that established National Italian Immigrant Day, celebrated on February 21st. “Thanks to him, Italian Immigrant Day was established,” declared Bernardini. Camata was 77 years old and had been out of politics since 2011, when he ended his third consecutive term as senator.
