“I’m going to ask Speranza for a total blockade.” These are the words of the advisor to the Italian Ministry of Health, Walter Ricciardi.
According to him, in a newspaper report La Repubblica, “and it is clear that the strategy for living with the virus, adopted so far, is ineffective and condemns us to instability, with a large number of deaths every day”.
In his words, the country needs a “total lockdown” to control the Covid-19 pandemic. “An immediate total lockdown across Italy is necessary, which also foresees the closure of schools without compromising essential activities, but for a limited duration,” said Ricciardi, who was recently appointed by the pope francisco to the Pontifical Academy for Life.
Ricciardi informed that he will speak with the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, kept in office even with the change of government, “still this week”.
Since November 2020, Italy has adopted a contagion range scheme by region. The areas are defined in white, yellow, orange and red, with restrictions that increase in each zone.

This Sunday, for example, the country recorded 11.068 new cases and 221 deaths.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the country has recorded more than 2,7 million infected confirmed and 93.577 dead.
