The team is made up of 60% female employees. The rest are relatives and daughters of employees
A San Lorenzo fan, Pope Francis once again demonstrated his passion for football. At the pontiff's initiative, the Vatican created its first women's football team, which will include female employees of the institution and their relatives, as well as the daughters of employees. Their debut will be against Roma on the 26th.
“Pope Francis has given a considerable boost to Vatican women and this initiative is an extension of that,” said Danilo Zannaro, Vatican sports representative. According to him, the entity has had a men's team for 48 years and it would be more than fair to also have a women's team.
The men's team is made up of volunteers from the Swiss Guard, members of the Papal Council and museum guards. You can only play some international matches against smaller opponents that are not affiliated with FIFA.

4800 people work in the Vatican, of which 750 are women. The new team is made up of 60% female employees (press room workers, supermarket and ministry employees), while the rest are relatives and daughters of employees.
Gianfranco Guadagnoli is the coach of the women's team, whose athletes are between 25 and 45 years old.
“It was a brilliant idea. I never imagined myself coming back here, having fun again like when I was a child kicking the ball alongside other women”, said Cameroonian Eugene Tcheugoue.
