The city of Genoa, Italy, has banned the opening of new “ethnic” and “unworthy” businesses in its historic center, recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
This prevents the opening of restaurants or street stalls selling typical foods from other countries, such as kebabs, or activities considered “indecorous”, such as call centers, ATMs, sex shops, hairdressers and nightclubs.
Furthermore, products displayed in shop windows and windows will have to comply with some rules. “It is an initiative to qualify and revitalize the historic center”, explained Paola Bordilli, Secretary of Tourism, Commerce and Crafts of Genoa.
The measure arises from an agreement between the regional government of Liguria, the City Hall and the Chamber of Commerce.
