A feijoada with boiled potatoes is the Italians’ “revenge”. Accustomed to the oddities made against untouchable Italian recipes, Italian-Brazilians did not miss the opportunity to play with the delicacy, nothing original, sold by the Lidl, a German supermarket chain with a strong presence in Italy.
“You can’t even feel insulted by this, because we were the ones who started this gastrodiplomatic outrage. It's pizza with stuffed edges, cream cheese on sushi, corn, peas, raisins and everything else on the hot dog and so on. One day there would be change”, said the good-natured Charles Souza, in a group of Italian-Brazilians on Facebook.
“This isn’t a feijoada, it’s a diplomatic incident”, joked Nathalia Bertolo Silva.
“Inspired by Brazilian cuisine, we brought Feijoada Brasileira for dinner”, says the official announcement of the dish of discord.
He adds: “If you ever travel to Brazil, it will be difficult to find a dish that does not include black beans. Yes, the land of bossa nova loves these little legumes, just like many other Latin American countries. Black bean stew combines black beans with slow-cooked pork and various spices. It sounds simple, but don’t underestimate this delicious and rich dish.”

In fact, Lidl's feijoada has boiled potatoes as a side dish alongside the main recipe. At least in the photo.
But, as meals are not always like those in publicity photos, the disastrous mixture was the main dish to become a meme.
After all, no one can stand to see a carbonara pasta made with cream, or a pizza with pineapple.
