The conquest of Italian citizenship may be closer for Brazilians who wish to obtain this right. This will be possible if the newly created Brazil-Italy Parliamentary Front manages to advance in its mission to speed up the process of obtaining citizenship.
The front, launched at the Italian embassy in Brasília, this Tuesday (06) promises to work in search of solutions that make the process faster and more efficient, as it is currently known to be time-consuming.
The vice-president of the front, deputy Eros Biondini (PL), highlights that it is essential to improve the organization of bureaucracy to accelerate the achievement of dual citizenship. He highlights the example of Argentina, where a bilateral agreement allows the use of digital certificates, demonstrating how improving bureaucracy can facilitate the recognition of Italian citizenship.
“We know that in Argentina there are fewer Italian descendants than in Brazil, but more Italian citizens than from Brazil. Italian citizens formally recognized, because they managed to better organize this bureaucracy”, said Biondini.
The bilateral agreement between Italy and Argentina, which simplified and accelerated the process of recognition of Italian citizenship for Argentines, it was the result of political negotiations between the two countries. Since 2019, Italy has accepted digital certificates presented by Argentines, making the recognition of dual citizenship faster and more efficient for them.
This advance in the organization of bureaucracy served as inspiration for the Brazil-Italy Parliamentary Front, which seeks to implement similar solutions to facilitate the process of obtaining Italian citizenship for Brazilians. Improving bureaucracy, based on the agreement signed with Argentina, has the potential to significantly reduce waiting times and make the right to access more accessible.
