Now it's official. Italy announced this Wednesday (22) that it will accept digital certificates presented by Argentines for the Italian citizenship process.
Digital certificates issued from April 2019 will be accepted.
The agreement was reached by Ambassador Roberto Carlés and the Minister of the Interior, Eduardo de Pedro, both Argentines, with the Minister of the Interior of Italy, Luciana Lamorgese.
The official note on the new rule “is available on the website of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will send instructions to municipalities to check the validity of digital certificates and the electronic apostille issued by Argentine authorities,” said Carlés on social media.
Negotiations began in April of this year, as reported exclusively by Italianismo, and Italy guaranteed the creation of a working group to study how to facilitate the recognition of dual citizenship for Argentines. And in less than two months he fulfilled his promise.
Estimates published by the newspaper Clarín indicate that around 30 million Argentines (around 65% of the population) have Italian blood. According to the 2010 Census, 147.499 people born in Italy live in Argentina.
