Court returns to judge cases of Italian citizenship. In-person hearing is ruled out
The hearings scheduled from July this year at Court of Rome will be carried out in writing. The “Decree Regarding the Written Hearing” was published this Monday (15), by the Eighteenth Civil Section.
The measure, which is part of the actions to combat and prevent covid-19, the coronavirus, reaches Brazilians who took action to combat recognition of Italian citizenship, and await the trial.
According to Reginaldo Maia, from Blessed CitizenshipThere will be no in-person hearings at the Rome Court for an indefinite period.
“Although they may seem strange, written hearings can be adopted by the judge in less complex cases and this is usual.” And the decision of the Court of Rome is to celebrate, he says. “The hearings were being postponed for months ahead, and this shows the Court's commitment to finalizing cases that allow a trial without the physical presence of the parties, in simple cases, such as in actions against illegal queues at consulates".
According to him, before the pandemic, hearings did not last more than five minutes. “I believe that a written hearing will be the new normal from now on at the Court of Rome and can speed up the process”, concludes Maia.
At the written hearing, the lawyer needs to attach a petition to the case, briefly explaining the process of the person interested in citizenship, and the judge, within a few days, publishes the sentence. All digitally.
