Former Italian prime minister allied with the far right to win the March elections

United with the far right, former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi promised this Saturday (20) to deport all illegal immigrants from the country if he wins the legislative elections on March 4.

At an assembly of the Animalist Movement, an animal rights association linked to his party, the conservative FI (Força Itália), Berlusconi said, without citing the source, that “only 5%” of forced migrants arriving in the country are fleeing. of wars.

“Everyone else, little by little, with civil and military means, we must return them to their homes, because we cannot maintain them, maintain their jobs and their well-being,” stated the former prime minister, adding that the solution to reducing crime is to “block the departures” of forced migrants.

Ineligible until 2019, Berlusconi concluded an alliance between the FI and two far-right parties: the Northern League, by Matteo Salvini, and the Brothers of Italy (FDI, in its Italian acronym), by Giorgia Meloni. According to the latest polls, the three parties, together, lead voting intentions for the March elections.

In 2017, the country saw a 34% drop in the number of forced migrants rescued in the Central Mediterranean, totaling 119.369 people.

In 2018, the figure is 1.821, 23,9% less than that recorded in the same period last year.
