The 2nd Italian Festival of Santos takes place this Saturday (16) and Sunday (17), from 12 pm to 20 pm, at Valongo Park, on the coast of São Paulo. Entrance is free and the city hall provides free transportation to the location.

The program includes musical performances, typical cuisine from various Italian regions, a creative fair, a children's area, and other attractions. The festival is promoted by the Santos City Hall and pays homage to the influence of Italian immigration in the city.

The chosen location is symbolic: Valongo Park is close to the point where thousands of immigrants disembarked between the 16th and 19th centuries.

Free transport

The city government will offer two special bus routes to Praça Mauá. Boarding will take place at Gonzaga (near the Hotel Atlântico, on the Ana Costa side) and at the Sambadrome on Avenida Afonso Schimidt, both from noon to 12 pm. Return services will depart between 17 pm and 14 pm.

Directions

Access to Valongo Park can be made via the new Porto-Cidade Engenheiro José Colla Walkway, which connects Rua XV de Novembro, 155, to Armazém 4. It is also possible to get there on foot via the ferry crossing between Santos and Guarujá, near Praça da República.

Tribute to Italian immigration

During the party, the public will be able to visit the mural A Sea of Hope, which portrays the arrival of Italian immigrants in Santos. The work celebrates 150 years of Italian immigration to Brazil and the historical connection with Genoa, Italy.
