The Italian ambassador in Brasilia, Alexander Cortese, expressed confidence that the next year will be of great importance for the bilateral relationship between Brazil and Italy.
Cortese highlighted the celebration of 150 years of Italian immigration in Brazil, which will be celebrated in 2024, and the “extraordinary coincidence of the Italian G7 and Brazilian G20 presidencies”.
On a recent visit to São Paulo, Cortese and the consul general Domenico Fornara met with the governor Tarcisio de Freitas and the mayor Ricardo Nunes, as well as representatives of Italian companies.
In the interview with the ANSA agency, the ambassador highlighted that the political and economic scenario is conducive to strengthening relations between Italy and Brazil.
“It’s a visit I wanted to make at the beginning of my term,” said Cortese. “As we know, São Paulo is one of the largest 'Italian' cities in the world, home to around 5 million Brazilians of Italian descent and a few hundred thousand Italians.”
He also highlighted that, among the thousand Italian companies in Brazil, around 600 are located in the state of São Paulo.
Italy and Brazil have a long history of cooperation in various areas, including economics, culture, science and technology.
