Venice and Rome are among the 10 most romantic destinations

On the occasion of “Saint Valentine's Day”, or “Valentine's Day”, celebrated in Italy and much of the Northern Hemisphere on February 14, the online hotel reservation service Booking.com has drawn up a ranking of the 10 most romantic destinations in the world.

The list, based on analyses of the places that registered the greatest increase in searches, includes the Italian cities of Venice and Rome among the favorite destinations for couples.

Between November 28 and December 5 last year, the site surveyed couples who chose and booked their stays from February 14 to 16 to reveal fascinating trends ranging from iconic destinations to some truly unexpected surprises.

Among the unusual destinations is Fukuoka, in Japan, which is the favorite destination for couples in love and which saw a 551% increase in online searches, followed by the Hungarian capital Budapest, with a boom of 130%.

In third place is Athens, Greece, with a 115% increase in searches, followed by Venice, Italy, the fourth most romantic city in the world, with a 112% increase.

Next come Patong Beach in Thailand (+110%), Krakow in Poland (108%) and Florianópolis in Brazil (+106%).

 The Italian capital, Rome, ranks eighth, with a 106% increase in searches as a destination for Valentine's Day. Rounding out the Top 10 are Hurghada, a beach destination in Egypt, and Paris – both registered a 101% increase in searches.HANDLE)
