A 42-year-old self-proclaimed Brazilian evangelical pastor was detained in Italy on suspicion of persecution and illegal entry into the country.
The incident occurred in Vicovaro, a small town with about 3,8 inhabitants on the outskirts of Rome. The suspect's identity has not been released.
The Italian police, the Carabineros Weapon, was called to intervene in a dispute between the pastor and his partner in the home of other Brazilians. When the agents arrived at the scene, they found the man on the street and a 30-centimeter knife abandoned a few meters away, according to Ansa.
The victim, a 51-year-old woman, told police that she had been assaulted by the pastor, who also threatened the homeowner with a knife and threw a pot of hot food, although it did not hit anyone.
The couple had met in prayer groups at an evangelical church where the Brazilian worked as a pastor, after having entered Italy illegally.
The victim also reported having suffered several verbal attacks and received threats that the pastor would release an intimate video of the two, recorded without her consent.
