The Argentine chef naturalized Brazilian Paola Carosella was announced as the godmother of the 12th edition of Settimana della Cucina Regionale Italiana de São Paulo, which takes place between October 23rd and 29th.
The announcement was made by Consulate General of Italy in São Paulo, which reveals that the chef is Italian citizen since 1994 and learned to cook, even as a child, with his family from the Marche region.
“I was born into a family of Italian immigrants; my grandparents and my father were born in Italy. I lived and grew up in a family that raised their own food, made their own tools, and worked the land,” said the owner of the Arturito restaurant and TV presenter.
Carosella recalls that her family members “were farmers in Italy and continued with their knowledge and talents in Argentina, but in a smaller space, as they lived in the city, in a house that had a large backyard”.
“I lived my Italian roots throughout my childhood: I helped raise and kill animals to eat, we cooked rich, colorful tables every day and took care of the house and the garden,” he added.
The chef also highlighted that, on celebration days and special dates, she usually prepares a recipe from her grandmother, from whom she learned to cook: gnocchi with chicken ragu.
“It’s a dish that reminds me of childhood and that connects me with Italy and my ancestors,” she concluded.
Carosella's participation as godmother of the Italian Regional Cuisine Week represents the strong presence of Italian immigration in South America, rescues the memory of those who helped build the city of São Paulo and summarizes the theme of this year's event, which is “kitchen of roots.”
The event, already incorporated into the gastronomic and cultural calendar of Brazil's largest metropolis, brings chefs from 20 Italian regions to prepare typical menus in renowned restaurants in São Paulo — something like no other in the world — and usually attracts 7 to 10 people each edition. .
