Dishes were prepared by Italian chefs to close Italian Cuisine Week

The Italian Consulate in Rio de Janeiro offered a charity lunch for 200 residents of the Rocinha favela this weekend as a way to conclude the 5th edition of the event. Settimana della Cucina Italiana (Italian Cuisine Week) in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

According to the consul in Rio de Janeiro, Paolo Miraglia Del Giudicand, the dishes were prepared by three Italian chefs.

“The Italian Cuisine Week in Rio concluded with an important and symbolic solidarity initiative carried out by Consulate General in collaboration with Refettorio Gastromotiva, created in 2016 under the leadership of Massimo Bottura [Italian chef], and with the Italian NGO Il Sorriso dei miei Bimbi, which for years has been carrying out extraordinary assistance and educational support activities in favor of hundreds of young people da Rocinha”, highlighted Del Giudice.

For the consul, this initiative “demonstrates how Italian gastronomy can also represent a powerful instrument of social integration, in addition to food and environmental education”. (HANDLE)
