The Italian Court of Cassation denied, this Friday (22), the extradition of former federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP). According to her defense lawyer, Fabio Pagnozzi, the Court recognized her status as “political persecution...and she may be released and go to her home in Rome.
“We managed to prevent the extradition of the most persecuted person in Brazil. Tomorrow she can return home as a free woman,” Pagnozzi told the program.Without beating around the bush da Gazeta do Povo.
Imprisoned in Italy since July 2025Carla was tried in Brazil for allegedly financing an intrusion into the systems of the National Council of Justice (CNJ). Even with the decision unfavorable to extradition, the final word rests with the Italian Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, who has up to a month and a half to make a decision.
The trial in Brazil resulted in the congresswoman being sentenced to 10 years in prison. Another defendant, the hacker Walter Delgatti Neto, known as the "Hacker of Araraquara," was sentenced to eight years and three months and has already progressed to an open prison regime.
