Despite a recent decree passed by the Italian Chamber of Deputies restricting the recognition of Italian citizenship, Father Patrick stated that he had appealed to the courts to... challenge the constitutionality of the measure.

He also encouraged other descendants of Italians to seek their rights through legal means:

“I stopped by for a coffee here to tell you something. I had started the process, in fact, I started the process for Italian citizenship. And all the procedures were going well. I found it difficult at first, but then it started flowing, you know? The certificates and everything. And then that decree came, right? Then you think, 'Oh no, the dream is over.' Not at all. Because I am a man of faith and I don't give up. And there's still the justice system. That's what everyone is doing. Going to court to have the decree declared unconstitutional. So, if you have Italian ancestry, you still have the right to citizenship, you know?” said the pop star priest.
