An unprecedented heatwave is set to hit Italy in the coming days. Extreme temperatures of up to 48°C are expected to be recorded in Sardinia and parts of Sicily, making it the hottest peak of the season.
This situation will be aggravated by the high level of relative humidity in the air, intensifying the sensation of heat and making it difficult to stay outdoors at certain times of the day, especially in areas further away from the coast. However, in coastal regions, the sea breeze will alleviate the heat somewhat.
Following the information provided by meteorologists from Ilmeteo.it, the African anticyclone “Cerberus” will completely dominate the weather in the coming days. There will be sunny and intensely hot days in much of the country, with few clouds and the possibility of some heat storms in areas close to the mountains between Alto Adige and Cadore, but with a low probability of rain.
This Sunday (9), maximum temperatures are already close to 40°C, but in the coming days, especially in the internal regions of Sardinia and Sicily, they will increase even more.
The site 3b weather explains that “the African anticyclone is intensifying in the Mediterranean latitudes and over Italy”. From this Monday, July 10th, the heat will become even more intense as a mass of hot air will move from Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia towards central and southern Europe, including Italy. Therefore, it is important to avoid excessive heat exposure for both people and animals.
Tuesday will be another scorching day, with temperatures also rising on the Adriatic coast.

In Milan, temperatures will vary between 27°C (minimum) and 36°C (maximum), in Bologna between 26°C and 38°C, in Genoa between 26°C and 30°C, in Florença between 25°C and 39°C in Rome, between 25°C and 36°C in Ancona, between 25°C and 35°C in Naples, between 27°C and 33°C in Foggia, between 23°C and 40°C in Cagliari, between 25°C and 33°C in Palermo, and between 27°C and 34°C in Palermo.
The highest peaks, as mentioned previously, will be reached in Sardinia and Sicily, where temperatures will reach almost 50°C.
