Meteorologists announced this Tuesday (6) that next weekend promises to be the “hottest of the year” in Italy, with maximum temperatures of 40°C in the north and 43°C in the south.
“Temperatures will rise a few degrees until Sunday, most likely determining the hottest weekend of 2024,” said Lorenzo Tedici, meteorologist at the climate website iLMeteo.it, to the Ansa agency.
“Between Saturday, August 10, and Sunday, August 11, highs of 39-40°C are expected in the north, especially in the Emilia Romagna region, while in the south, in more inland areas, we will reach 42-43°C ”, explained Tedici.
This forecast marks “the beginning of a new heat wave that will persist in the country at least until the beginning of next week”, he added.
The intense heat predicted for this weekend and early next week should begin to subside in the days close to the national holiday of Ferragosto, which takes place on Thursday, August 15, according to long-term projections.
Italy's Ministry of Health has issued several health warnings in recent weeks due to the risks associated with prolonged periods of intense heat, as well as high levels of humidity.

The ministry advised residents of Italy to spend the afternoon indoors whenever possible, avoid physical exertion and drink “at least one and a half liters” of water a day.
According to scientists, heat waves have become more frequent and intense in Italy and throughout Europe in recent years due to the effects of climate changes.
