Video posted on the parish page left the city outraged
“After worship we will pause for a moment of fraternity. Do you know why? There is a lot of isolation around. We need to socialize, smile, get to know each other, despite the pandemic.”
The phrase is from a priest from Wall, a city that is close Nápoles, in southern Italy.
During religious mass this Sunday (16), with the church packed, he minimized the danger of Covid-19, inviting the faithful to circumvent anti-contagion rules.
According to the portal Vesuvius Live, during a song the parish priest continued to encourage the faithful: “warm your heart, take off your masks, there is no need anymore. Tell the Lord what you have in your heart.”
“They (authorities) forced us not to hug each other, to stay apart and have virtual relationships. But tonight we can be together”, continued the priest.
The speech, given the resumption of infections and the high number of deaths in the country, provoked outrage in the city of 10 inhabitants and local authorities.
The video was posted on the parish page on Facebook, but was later removed.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Italy has recorded more than 3 deaths and around 255 infected with the new coronavirus.
