This is the second earthquake to hit the Molise region this week.
A new earthquake measuring 5,3 on the Richter scale struck the Molise region of southern Italy on Thursday (16). There have been no reports of casualties so far. According to the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, the tremor occurred around 20:19 pm (local time, or 15:19 pm in Brazil) and had its epicenter 9 km from Montecilfone, in the province of Campobasso. The earthquake also hit Campania, Rieti and the province of Avellino, a region already devastated in 2016 by another earthquake. In addition, the phenomenon was felt on the lower floors of buildings in Naples.
Authorities reported that some houses were damaged in Palata, in the Molise region. The director of the Vesuvian Observatory's monitoring room, Francesca Bianco, and the Italian Fire Department reported having received several calls from concerned citizens.
