the deputy Luis Roberto Lorenzato (Lega), which serves in the Italian Parliament, is in agreement with the senator Luiz Osvaldo Pastore (MDB) to ensure the renewal of the reciprocal agreement between Brazil and Italy for driver's licenses.
“We have already reached an understanding with the senator, aiming to renew the agreement, which expires in January 2023, thus ensuring that this important right is not lost,” Lorenzato declared to Italianism.
Since 2018, there has been a bilateral agreement between Brazil and Italy, which guarantees the reciprocal recognition of drivers' licenses from both countries.
Thus, it is possible, through a simple conversion, for a Brazilian to acquire the Italian granted patent, the Italian license. The conversion exempts qualified Brazilians from having to go through the entire process to obtain a license in Italy.
The agreement, signed on January 15, 2018, is valid for five years. In other words, in 2023, it could lose its validity if nothing is done to renew it.
Agreement rules
Bilateral recognition of qualifications provides that Brazilian drivers can exchange their driver's license for Italian granted patent without the need for exams or tests. The understanding is that Brazilians have already completed this process to obtain their driver's license.
While the process to obtain the Italian license is ongoing, Brazilians will be able to drive in Italy with their driver's license. Once the process is complete, the conversion will be carried out and the citizen will be able to move freely, with their new license duly recognized.
To obtain the conversion of your CHN to an Italian license, you must meet some requirements, which are: possessing a valid Brazilian driver's license, residing in Italy for less than four years, having obtained your first license before being legally in Italy and possess categories A or B of the driver's license.
