Official figures were released by the Italian Civil Defense
Italian authorities confirmed on Thursday (27) that at least 17 people have died as a result of the new coronavirus (Covid-19) and 650 are infected, with 45 people already cured. The information was released by the portal Repubblica.it.
So far, Italian cases are mainly concentrated in the regions of Lombardy and Veneto, both in the rich and industrialized north of the country.
Nine other regions of Italy have also been affected: Emilia-Romagna, Liguria, Lazio, Sicily, Tuscany, Campania, Piedmont, Trentino-Alto Adige, Abruzzo.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that it is possible to travel in all 7.904 municipalities, except the following: in Lombardy – Codogno, Castiglione d'Adda, Casalpusterlengo, Fombio, Maleo, Somaglia, Bertonico, Terranova dei Passerini, Castelgerundo and San Fiorano -, in Veneto – Vò Euganeo.
“We have the perception in the world of an Italy affected throughout the territory, but we are talking about delimited areas, it is important not to participate in this misinformation that will cause more damage than the same risk of an epidemic”, said Di Maio.
The Italian Chancellor also made an “appeal to everyone who loves Italy”. “It is important at this time to publish these numbers. For two days all embassies and consular networks have been active in transferring all the correct information about what is happening to governments around the world”, he concluded.
