The situation is worrying, says president of the Instituto Superior de Saúde
The epidemic worsens in Italy. This Friday (30), the country had a new jump in the Coronavirus infection curve. There are 31.084 new cases and 199 deaths in the last 24 hours. 215.085 tests were carried out.
In two months, cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection have more than quadrupled in Italy: in fact, the prevalence in the period from September 28th to October 27th is equal to 504,17 per 100 thousand inhabitants, against a prevalence of 111,50 per 100 thousand in the period from August 29th to September 27th.
This is what the study carried out by Catholic University Higher School of Economics and Health Systems Management.
Critical phase
The weekly monitoring by the control room at the Instituto Superior de Saúde is worrying. Italy is in a type 3 scenario, but evolving towards 4.
The RT index, which calculates the replication capacity of the virus “in Italy is 1,7, still growing”, explains Silvio Brusaferro, president of Higher Institute of Health. “All regions are above the RT 1 value and many are also significantly above, and this is an important element.”

Indexes from 1 upwards indicate uncontrolled transmission of the virus.
According to experts from the Instituto Superior de Saúde “11 autonomous regions and provinces must be considered to be at high risk of uncontrolled transmission and 8 are classified as moderate risk with a high probability of evolving to high risk in the next month”.
The group most in difficulty includes Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Liguria, Lombardy, Piedmont, Puglia, Sicily, Tuscany, Valle d'Aosta and Veneto.
At moderate risk are Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Molise, Umbria and in the provinces of Bolzano e Trento.
